Is Private Label Gaining Preferred Search Rankings?

Walmart’s most recent earnings call referenced shoppers trading down as they feel the pressure of rising prices and diminishing disposable income. At Webata, we thought it would be interesting to see if Walmart’s private brands were seeing significant preferential treatment in search rankings. 

 

  • After analyzing thousands of keywords each day from May through July, here are two interesting findings:
  • Overall, the average ranking of private label items has not improved significantly, only by around one rank position.

In some categories, however, private label items did pick up noteworthy keywords for which they rank.
